New Zealand gained access to the Confederations cup by winning the 2016 OFC Nations cup. New Zealand beat teams from Fiji, Vanuatu, and Solomon Islands. Confederations Cup - New Zealand

FIFA Confederations Cup will begin very soon. And for the fourth time, New Zealand fans will see their favorite teams at the Confederations cup.

Previously New Zealand participated in:
  • 1999
  • 2003
  • 2009

Unfortunately for New Zealand, they never left the group stage. In 1999 they were beat by USA, Germany, and Brazil. In 2003 they faced very strong teams again - Japan, Columbia, and France. In 2009 they had better luck, but still didn't move on to the play-offs. The lost against Spain and South Africa, and tied against Iraq.

Perhaps this year will be more favorable for Team New Zealand and they will reach the play-offs. New Zealand plays its first match on June 17th against Russia in Saint Petersburg. It is the first match of the tournament and will be played at the Krestovsky stadium.
