Sergei Anokhin, the vice-president of the Russian Football Union, said in an interview that FIFA has ranked the Russian National Football Team in 61st place: "Our rating will continue to fall since we aren't participating in qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup. Our goal is to reach at least the semi-finals in the Confederations Cup. If that happens, we will be in the top 20 in the FIFA rankings."
"This is a very important time for us - sort of a break it or make it point. We hope that this tournament, the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, will breathe new life into the Russian National Football team and will open a new era in Russian football."
