Fisht Olympic Stadium is ready for the Confederations Cup


Alexei Sorokin, the CEO of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Local Organizing Committee, has stated that the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi is ready to host the upcoming 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup matches. Reconstruction is complete, and all of the paper work is in order.

The first match that will be played at this stadium is a friendly between Russia and Belgium. The match will be played on March 28th. Before that the organizing committee has more than a month to put on the finishing touches and to prepare the stadium.

The Fisht Olympic stadium was built in 2013 for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. It is an open air stadium designed by Populous and Buro Happold. After hosting the winter Olympics, the stadium underwent reconstruction to become compliant with FIFA regulations. The stadium seats more than 47,000 fans.
